To our community:

•      A Special thank you to my wife Flavia and two wonderful daughters Nicole and Natalie for putting up with me being away from home:

•      Thank you for your wonderful introduction Lila qutami

•      Good evening Family, friends and members of the Clergy

•      Unity        Unity          Unity

•      Medicine has no boundaries

•      Sees no color

•      And Knows no Religion

•      Please join me and others to help out a cause that is much needed through out our country Palestine, Not just now while we have  crisis; but rather indefinitely till their needs are addressed.

•      Let us take time to educate and supply our dear brothers, Sisters and our young Children since they (that) hold the key to our future generations to come.

•      It is heart warming to see all of you here under one roof for the sole purpose of helping human conditions in Palestine at large and Especially in Gaza.

•      There are many medical staff in Gaza doing their very best, trying to save life. There is an urgent need for medical supplies, shelter, (and)living arrangements, and basic food needs. These Medical Staff(ers) and their assistants are working around the clock, in quite challenging conditions, but they cannot do it ALONE!!

•      Good Evening, I’m Bajis Katwan A volunteer,a Fundraiser and a Medical Mission Coordinator for the AFRP Medical Mission.

•      We at the Medical Mission are preparing and Fund raising for when the time is opportune to help in Gaza as a non-profit, humanitarian and non-political act.

•      At this very moment we are gathering medical supplies from different Doctors, Hospitals and companies that are ready to be shipped from Virginia with the generous Help from Heart of Mercy Operated by Peter Omran. Along with the Shipment of medical Supplies we are shipping Bed sheets, Shoes and other necessary and needed Items.

•      This past medical mission to Palestine is operated under the American Federation of Ramallah Palestine, in cooperation with Physicians for Peace. The past mission in June consisted of several components, which include

•      Restructuring of the emergency room and educating its staff to treat particularly complex cases on patients

•      Creating a working Vascular center and vein Clinic to address the high rate of limb loss

•      And breaking ground to open a TELE/Video Medicine consulting Center. This new facility, which is slated to open during the early part of 2015, It will be a haven for Palestinian doctors to tele conference with our Volunteers doctors from all over the country. This center will allow United States medical providers to over see and give professionalized recommendations for doctors to benefit their patients in Palestine. This new facility will bridge a gap between western medicine and our country of Palestine. Doctors in Palestine will be able to get ON DEMAND second opinions. Western doctors will be able to give REAL TIME diagnosis of patients half way around the world. What is The long term result of such center?
Ramallah, Gaza, and all of Palestine become a self sustaining country that is able to care for its people.

•      We Currently Fund our Missions by the generosity of Our Volunteers. These include the Fund raising provided by our Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by the San Francisco Ramallah Club and Donations from the American Federation of Ramallah Palestine. We were also gifted with donations from Equipment Makers Such as Toshiba with a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine, Abbott laboratories with an iSTAT machine, Maher and Renna Zabaneh with all-in-one computers and lastly the pharmaceutical Companies with needed medicine.

•      The Medical Needs are far too Great, the Doctors of the Medical Mission Travel to many Hospitals in Palestine, to Share their Vast Knowledge with Local Physician’s who tend to their overwhelming Crowded Hospitals on daily basis.  Our Doctors are very skilled and Have the latest technology in Teaching Local Doctors with the newly provided Equipment. These Items Make a world of a difference on how patients will be (are being) Examined in the future and Being able to Diagnose and Pinpoint their Illness in 2-4 Minutes makes it easier for their work and to be more efficient and more accurate.

•      I can confidently say, on behalf of myself and the 22 doctors that accompanied me, that we were able to meet and exceed all of our goals of this medical mission.

•      Having the opportunity to meet with The minister of Health Jawad Awad has been brought to my attention that each year the Palestinian Authority spends in excess of 200 Million Dollars a year in order to send patients to other Countries such as Jordan and Israel for Specialized medicine.

•      This “ON GOING PRACTICE OF SENDING PATIENTS TO OTHER COUNTRIES” MUST stop!!

•      We Must do our best to help provide, educate, Train and Equipped our doctors in Palestine in order to keep the money in our Homeland for other use such as training and paying the doctors better salaries so that you can keep the continuity of doctors working in the Same Hospital for years to come.

•      The Benefits of the Medical Mission were far Reaching. Over 150 Physicians, Nurses, Medical Students and Other Personnel from Ramallah, Nablus, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Bait Jala as well as Nazareth  have Attended the Educational and training Sessions Taught by our Expert Volunteer Doctors.

•      We also Gratefully Acknowledge the support we receive from Local Governments, heads of Hospitals and Local doctors.

•      Under the Guardian’s of Dr. Rajai khoury, Majed Hassan and Eid Mustafa The AFRP Medical Mission will be Recruitingmore(enough)Volunteer specialists that can serve in Palestine on a consistent Basis in order to Fulfill needed services in the Future.

•      A source of Funding for the Mission starts with the Doctors Volunteering to pay their own expenses to____ Travel, accommodations and Food. Including all of the equipment that is being carried by each of the Volunteer Doctors.

Seeing the work that has been done by all of the Volunteers, The bank of Palestine has stepped up to help in some of the expenses that the doctors incur while they are in Palestine. These will Include Travel Expenses from City to City and Other Minor Accommodations.

•      Sending Doctors to preform Minor-In-Patient Procedures isn’t what we are trying to accomplish, this is about sharing the Necessary expertise to preform specialized surgeries with the proper Education and tools.

•      The following amazing story embodies our Medical Mission goals:

•      One day, Dr. Majed Bolus Hassan was conducting a seminar to the Emergency Room Doctors. In his lecture and training, he shared how crucial the first five minutes are to a patient’s outcome. It could be the difference between Life and Death! He elaborated on the ability to explore a patient who has had a major trauma and expose the heart without causing any additional injury or complications. This new approach to a traumatized patient interested the ER Drs greatly. They were like sponges and absorbed Dr Hassan’s lessons.

•      Ironically, two days later, a patient, with a stab wound to the heart was rushed to the Emergency Room . Unfortunately, the patient, upon arrival, was flat lined. The ER dr knew that the first 4 to 5 minutes were most crucial. With passion for the patients, and his eagerness of applying the knowledge that he has learned from Dr Hassan, the ER doctor decided to perform the exploratory examination of the flat line patient’s heart. Almost miraculously, once the doctor opened up the patient, he was able to see two faint beats of the heart…. the doctor immediately began to use the procedures that Dr Hassen lectured on two days before. The young ER doctor was elated to report that he was able to save the patient!!!

•     Believe me there is nothing more gratifying to me or anyone else then seeing our humanitarian efforts being utilized to make the lives of others better.

•      With your Help we can expand the size and the scope of the mission by creating permanent centers of excellence for the delivery of health care in Palestine.

•      We are volunteers dedicated to the improvement of the human

•      condition by helping to improve the local health care delivery system. Our physician volunteers completely cover their own expenses and are dedicated to transfer their knowledge to local physicians and medical community, through active participation in the delivery of health care through workshops and lectures.

•      Tonight, in addition to sharing with you our pride at these achievements, I hope that you see the enormous potential for future growth.  Each and every one of you—whether your profession is in the medical field or otherwise— You have the potential to change the lives of our people in Palestine.  The Ramallah Club of San Francisco will be holding the 3rd annual AFRP Medical Mission Golf Tournamenton October 20, at the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club. So please join us on the continuing efforts of making it a successful event.  Even if you are unable to attend that particular event, you are all invited to contribute in any form at any time.  We encourage all of you to contact any of us from the mission to discuss what you can do to get involved.

•      Thank you so much for your time and attention this evening.
